Good Vibrations Music Festival!!

Best. Day. Ever.

Okay that might be exaggerating, but it was up there on the list of awesome days! A few weeks ago we found out there was a big music festival going on here and that we had to go. The tickets were $150, which I thought was kinda steep for my budget so I put off buying them for awhile. Luckily I waited because it turns out the festival wasn't selling out as fast as they thought it would, so they made tickets half price, or people that had already purchased their tickets could bring someone with them for free. So I just buddied up with someone who had already bought their ticket. Worked out perfectly.

This decision to go to the festival turned out to be a bit of a confliction with work, my managers were pretty angry with me and the other half of the office that ditched out on work to go have fun. You see, this week at work was something called the "Quarterly Cup," where all the channels compete against each other in sales and there are all these money and booze incentives to win involved. Some people take it really seriously, but to be honest, I could care less. I felt slightly guilty for like 10 minutes but then I got over it and enjoyed the rest of my day :).

When we first got there we went to a tent called the Chinese Laundry where they had all the techno/DJs playing. We watched a DJ called Fake Blood, he was really good, then Rusko came on, who I had been anxiously anticipating to see! I'm going to be real with you, he was face melting, womp womp womp womp dub step, awesomeness! I wanted more than anything for my friends to be dancing around with me at the Rusko show. I probably sweat off my body weight yesterday. I don't think I stopped dancing the whole day. After Rusko we went and saw Nas and Damien Marley. This was one of my favorite shows too. They ended their show by playing Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved." Perfect way to end it.
Rusko

Next we headed over to another tent to see Ludacris. Luuuudaaaa holla!!! This was a pretty fun one to see because he sang all the songs everyone knew--and everyone loves it when they feel like they know all the words to songs and can sing in unison about slapping hoes. We watched a few others then headed over to one of the manager's houses to hang out.

When we got there it turns out both my team managers were there, the ones who were mad at me, but luckily they got over it and we ended up having a good time together. There are a lot of team managers at this Truenergy place I work at and they are all friends with each other, so we walked over to another managers house only to discover they had gotten drunk and whipped out the ol' home tattoo kit on one another. I walked in to find Jordan passed out on the couch with, "I <3 TITS" tattooed on his shoulder. Yep. Wait for it.......

Yep it's real. And he informed Eliot that he needed to touch it up because it was fading yesterday. No shame! I just imagine him as a 40 year old dad grilling burgers out by the pool with his shirt off and his kids running up to ask him a question with his tattoo of I heart Tits for all to see. What a ladies man. He was going to add, "and asses" to it, but he passed out too early. A couple nights prior their french roommate got drunk off goon and Eliot tattooed "Goon Warrior" on her foot. I guess it's a good momento, right? Home tattoo kits are a bad idea, but these people are pure comedy.

One another note, I put in my six-days notice at work the other day, so Monday is my last day then I'm moving onto Brisbane. Three others from my group already moved on earlier in the week and the rest of us have decided it's time too. Two of the guys might have fruit picking jobs about an hour and a half outside of Brisbane and the other guy got a welding job. So I'm hoping there is plenty of work for me in Brisbane or near it at least. I'm sure there will be since that's where all the flooding happened.

Anyway, I gotta go get ready to work on my tan while I knock some doors :). See ya!

P.S. I'll add some videos of the good vibes festival soon, no time right now!

You want some cheap electricity?

Ah sorry I'm a blogger failure lately! But fear not, I am back in action!

So official with my badge.

A couple of weeks ago I arrived in a town called Surfers Paradise. This is pretty much a big city with a beach attached to it. Lots of people compare it to Miami but in my opinion Miami is way more crazy. We lounged around for a few days before we found a job listing on Gumtree (Australia's version of Craigslist) being a sales rep for a company called TRUenergy. We showed up for an "interview" but it pretty much consisted of, "Tell us where you're from and what kind of sales experience do you have?" then we went through 2 days of training, were thrown an iPad and dropped off on a street with a trainer to try and start making sales. Essentially, I have to go door to door and ask people about their electricity then convince them to sign on with TRU because we have better rates and discounts than everyone else. It's slightly sketchy. After about the second day in I was ready to quit but they were having an awards party on Saturday where $1000 worth of free booze was going to be supplied to us, so I figured I'd stick it out until then so I could be in on this party!

The party was legit! After the tab ran out we were invited to an after-party at one of my co-worker's houses, so about 15 of us stumbled walked over to his apartment and piled into the elevator. At this point we decided to disregard the 8 person capacity limit-this was a very big mistake! As soon as the door closed the elevator sank to the bottom floor where we remained trapped for the next hour. Please just try to put yourself in this situation. 15 hammered people pressed up against each other like sardines for an hour in a hot elevator... Everyone was dripping sweat, a few girls were freaking out, but no worries, I kept my cool.
After we were rescued me and my friends ran to the beach and jumped in the ocean. Freedom never felt so good!

Monster spider I
encountered on my route!
I still am not the biggest fan of the job, but for some reason I keep showing up everyday. It's getting better and I've made about 10 sales so far but it is really boring walking around all day in the heat having the same conversation with people about their electricity. Oh well, we will see what happens!

All in all I'm still having a great time. After work the place where I'm living usually has a BBQ or something fun going on so that keeps us entertained. Anyway, I'll continue to keep everyone up-to-date with what's going on down here!

Cheers
